I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself, and the question you are probably asking: “Who is Sean Cooper?”

I’m actually a pretty normal guy, who went through a point where I decided that I needed to finally figure out how to get rid of my social anxiety and shyness.

1. First there’s the website articles out there written by people who have never actually been shy or socially anxious giving you motivational phrases like “you just have to believe in yourself and not care about what anyone thinks of you.”

Yeah, right. If they had ever experienced what shyness or social anxiety feels like, then they wouldn’t be giving such useless advice.

2. Then there’s the “hypnosis” tapes on those shady internet websites. Here’s all I have to say about them: If you actually believe they work, then go ahead and buy them. I’m not going to stop you wasting your money.

3. Then there’s all the “psychologists” out there doing scientific studies. You would think that their qualifications would give them more credibility than the average person, but it doesn’t. The truth is that although they know a lot about the causes of shyness and social anxiety … they know very little about how to actually cure them!

4. Then we go to the “psychotherapists”. These are the people who are supposed to take all that theory from the psychologists and use it to fix people’s mental issues.

Actually, I found that psychotherapists weren’t all bad. Generally speaking, they will tell you to journal your thoughts and see which thoughts are irrational so you can stop them in the future. Then they will help you to schedule times when you will face your fears, like going to the grocery store twice a week.

This approach works for some people, but there are many downsides. Basically all psychotherapists have never had social anxiety, so all they can really do is read you instructions from their training book. They can only tell you what they read and hope it works for you. If you have any specific issues, they will just give you the same basic advice anyone else would: “Believe in yourself and don’t care about people’s opinion.”

Oh, and there’s also the fact that you’re paying someone over a hundred dollars an hour to solve an issue they have never had to face. You get to sit there spilling out your worst insecurities and most humiliating thoughts while they collect the checks and then go home to spend anxiety-free time with their family and many close friends.

So Who Can Teach You How To Overcome Shyness or Social Anxiety?

Not only have I read all of the book and listened to all of the CD courses out there, but I have also tried out all of the techniques inside them and figured out which ones work and which ones don’t.
