  • An added difficulty for many people that lack social confidence is that they tend to only have a narrow range of interests, but these may be very deep interests. Some people, including myself have a natural disposition towards this, but it can make socialising quite tough.

The way to deal with this is to find people with those same interests and passions. Go out and look for them. You can search through Facebook using the filters, or go to meetup groups for this. Better still, see if you can use your specialist interests to help someone. I used to have great interest in cars as a teenager, and although I was totally oblivious to the social world, people would always come to me if they wanted car advice.

Finding people who specifically share your interests , will make conversations so much easier, and is a way to make good friends even if your social skills in general aren’t that great.
